If you’re traveling on County Road 26 between Lexington and Le Sueur today, watch out for a church in the middle of the road.
St. Joseph’s Church in Lexington Township is on the move to a new location at the Pioneer Power grounds east of Le Sueur. Speaking with Kyle Zander yesterday, Pioneer Power President Tom Graham said yearly festival will be a good home for the 190-year-old church, which was in danger of deteriorating after being empty since a parish consolidation in 2008.
After much planning and coordination, St. Joseph’s almost-six mile trek began at 8:00 this morning. The moving crew, four or five power crews, and a police escort hope to have the church at the Pioneer Power grounds by early afternoon.
