A nationwide warrant has been issued for a Lakeville man who abandoned his soon-to-be-foreclosed house and his 11-year-old son.

Steven Cross is wanted on a warrant for gross-misdemeanor child neglect. The 60-year-old single father disappeared in the middle of the night July 18, leaving behind a handwritten note for his son and another for a neighbor. In the notes, Cross complained of financial troubles and said he would not be coming back.

Cross’s son, Sebastian, is currently staying with an aunt after spending several weeks with a family friend while Dakota County child protection workers sought a place for him.
