Adelman meets with Timberwolves about coaching vacancy 02 Sep 11

Rick Adelman met with the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday to discuss their head-coaching opening, ESPN.com reported, citing a league source said.

The 65-year-old Adelman, who left the Houston Rockets after his contract expired June 30, is the seventh candidate to interview for the position since the Timberwolves fired Kurt Rambis last month. Rambis declined to stay with the team in a front-office capacity, sources told ESPN.

Other coaches who have interviewed include former Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson and Larry Brown.

The Timberwolves are in serious need of a turnaround after finishing at a league-worst 17-65 last season. They have talent in All-Star Kevin Love, Michael Beasley and this year’s No. 2 overall pick, Derrick Williams. Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio, the fifth pick in 2009, also is expected to make his debut whenever the league ends its current labor lockout.
