Despite a rather sluggish and sloppy looking game two, the Lakeville North Volleyball team took it to Owatonna Tuesday night 3-0. The Panthers jumped out of the gate with a dominating performance in game 1 topping the Huskies 25-11. Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Goehner led with five kills, finishing the night with 17 overall.
The Panthers struggled through game two, despite coming out with the win.
“That game was a lot closer than I felt like it needed to be,” says Panthers head coach Steve Willingham.
There were several opportunities for the Panthers to stretch their lead. However, the girls struggled to a 25-22 win.
“We had four or five service errors, we had a number or net errors that are not really characteristic of us.”
What is characteristic of the defending state champions is the performance that they put on in the third game. A mix of finesse and strength that helped the Panthers move to 2-0 on the season. Lakeville North put the match away with a 25-19 win.
Senior outside hitter Kelly Nizzari finished with 8 kills. Junior Haley Walker had 7 kills.
