A 78-year-old Lonsdale-area man is in satisfactory condition at a Twin Cities hospital after crashing his paraglider in a bean field Monday evening.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, Rice County deputies were dispatched to Elmore Avenue and State Highway 19, where they found the light frame aircraft in the field but not the pilot. A passerby told deputies he had seen the pilot walking and given him a ride to his residence.
Authorities identified the pilot as John Goodoien and contacted him at his home. Goodoien said he was in the air less than one hour when his 1986 paraglider lost power. He thought he crashed around 7:20 p.m.
Goodoien was transported by ambulance to Northfield Hospital and then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center early Tuesday morning.
