NEW PRAGUE – The New Prague Trojans football team was doomed by big kick returns from Anthony Baysuh and four turnovers to a 49-20 lost to the Academy of Holy Angels Friday night in New Prague. New Prague quarterback Kyle Stepka threw three touchdowns and going 4-for-6 passing for 78 yards. In the second half Stepka would be chased by Holy Angels linebacker TJ Patrias getting sacked four times and fumbling the ball three times on hard hits from Patrias.
Scoring for this game started for Holy Angels on the first drive of the game by going 64-yards finishing with a 28-yard run by quarterback Sam Keis. New Prague would take advantage of a fumbled punt return by Holy Angels Kyle Fallon and getting the ball at the Holy Angels 5-yard-line. On a fourth and goal from the 4-yard line New Prague’s Kyle Stepka threw to 6’7″ Trevor O’Brien to tie the game at 7-7. The Stars next drive would start at their own 43 yard line after a 30 yard return from Anthony Baysuh and would score seven-plays later on a triple-option pitch to Mikias Alipate to make the score 13-7 Holy Angels. As the first quarter wound down New Prague would have their first turnover of the game when Jake Molitor was stripped on the first play of theie next drive giving the Stars the ball at the New Prague 24 yard-line.
Holy Angels would finish the drive with a touchdown with a 4-yard run from quarterback Sam Keis as he dove into the end zone, just barely breaking the goal line to make the score 19-7. Scoring would hold off until midway through the second quarter when New Prague’s Kyle Stepka would find Zack Shetka on a 2-yard swing pass for a touchdown. The big play on the drive that set up the touchdown was Stepka connecting with Luke Tietz for a 59-yard-pass. New Prague would make the extra point to trim the score to 19-14 Holy Angels. But once again Holy Angels Anthony Baysuh would have a big return of 85-yards for a touchdown that would be called back due to block in the back by a player 20 yards behind the return. The Stars would still start their drive at New Prague’s 37 yard-line. Holy Angels Will Pagel would finish the drive with a touchdown run of 15-yards, but New Prague would block their third of four extra points to make the halftime score of 25-14.
New Prague got the ball to start the second half and would move down the field until a fumble on a hand-off from Kyle Stepka to Zack Shetka would give Holy Angels the ball on their 34-yard-line. The Stars would take over five minutes off the clock on the drive while converting on fourth down and ending with a touchdown pass from Sam Keis to Will Pagel to extend the lead to 31-14. The Trojans would march down the field thanks to powerful running from Jake Molitor before converting a 4th-and-10 from the Holy Angels 13-yard-line with a Kyle Stepka pass to Trevor O’Brien for the second touchdown on the game between the two to make the score 31-20, Holy Angels. Another big return from Holy Angels Anthony Baysuh would doom the Trojans when he returns the ball to New Prague’s 10-yard-line.
The fourth quarter started with another touchdown from the Academy of Holy Angels Will Pagel, his third touchdown of the game with a 13-yard touchdown run making the score 37-20, Holy Angels. Another fumble by New Prague would give Holy Angels the ball at their 28-yard-line and Will Pagel would get his fourth and final touchdown of the game with a 9-yard run to make it 43-20. Holy Angels Tyler Newburgh would add one more score for the Stars to get the final score 49-20 Holy Angels.
After the game New Prague head coach Jim Benick was happy with the effort, “The kids fought harder this week and are understanding how to play for four quarters.”
