Canterbury Park in Shakopee concluded its live horse racing season on Sunday, and the average attendance at the track increased for a third consecutive year to a Canterbury Park record of 6,143.

But the 20-day shutdown of the track and card casino in July is expected to have a delayed impact on live racing. Although overall attendance increased, on-track wagering remained flat, suggesting a loss of revenue that will be felt next season in fewer races or smaller purses.

Still, track President Randy Sampson says the steady wagering numbers are positive, considering that two of the largest wagering days over the Fourth of July weekend were lost.
