A month-long Facebook contest that invites the public to vote for landmarks they would like to see receive preservation funding will now include a historic Belle Plaine church.
American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation announced yesterday that Belle Plaine’s Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration was chosen to compete in Partners in Preservation, a community-based program providing preservation grants for local historic places.
Twenty-five historic sites are eligible for a total of $1 million in funding. Each site is competing for the grand prize of $125,000, and the remaining funds will be awarded to the other nominated sites after a review.
You can vote several times for the church through Oct. 12 on Facebook at www.facebook.com/partnersinpreservation.
