A former youth and varsity hockey coach in Prior Lake and Savage has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a student.

James Vandusartz, 57, of Burnsville, pleaded guilty last week to felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Dakota County District Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 16.

Vandusartz worked part time at the Blake School in Hopkins as a girls’ hockey coach at the time of the alleged incident. The victim, who was not a student at Blake, was 16 to 18 years old when she said was assaulted at Vandusartz’s home in Nov. 2010.

Vandusartz was a longtime youth goalie coach for boys and girls in the Prior Lake-Savage Hockey Association, and later was an assistant coach for the Prior Lake High School girls’ hockey team. He was dismissed from the high school team in 2006 when some players complained to school officials that he made suggestive remarks to them.
