A Chaska murder suspect could soon be released from jail despite having not posted bail.

Jesse James Rogers faces second-degree murder charges for the June 3 stabbing death of Jason Foster, 35, of Chaska, in the parking lot outside Kelley’s Bar in downtown Chaska. He appeared in court yesterday afternoon to request his bail be reduced to grant him a conditional release.

Rogers, 32, has been held in the Carver County Jail on $1 million bond since the incident. But defense lawyer John Torres argued that the court did not have all the facts when the “exceptionally high” bail was set. Torres says Rogers claims self-defense and asked the judge to grant Rogers a conditional release or reduce his bail to $20,000. Judge Richard Perkins is expected to act on the request in the next few days. A date of March 13 has been set for the jury trial.
