Thanks in part to the driest September on record and a windy day yesterday, officials from four fire departments had their hands full battling a bean field fire in Le Sueur County.
KEYC-TV reports a total of five crop fires, covering a one-square mile radius, were apparently started by a combine.
Le Sueur, Cleveland, Le Center, and Henderson Fire departments worked together to contain the fire as dry and windy conditions fueled the flames.
It is unclear how many acres were affected or how much damage was done. No injuries were reported.
Officials in Le Sueur County and others in southern Minnesota have suspended open burning until further notice as the National Weather service warns of potential fire hazards in warm, dry days to come.
