Mayor recants accusation of lies from staff member 05 Oct 11

Lakeville Mayor Mark Bellows, who publicly accused Senior Center coordinator Linda Walter of lying to him last month, recanted his claim in a statement issued at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Bellows made the accusation while explaining why he voted against moving ahead with plans to remodel a former police station for use by seniors, veterans and the city’s historical society.

The mayor’s statement this week said his “reference to a lie at the Sept. 19 council meeting was intended to reflect a perception in the community that he is opposed to the senior center and was not attributable to Ms. Walter.”

Walter hasn’t spoken publicly about the accusations, but her attorney said she hasn’t lied and would like an apology from the mayor or the city.
