Lakeville North Football Coach Brian Vossen had one more team to cross off his list. A list that had the names of all the schools predicted to finish ahead of the Panthers in the South Suburban Conference. By the time the final whistle blew Wednesday night, he has able to put a hash mark through Prior Lake.
The Panthers topped the Lakers 21-3 on a cold night in Prior Lake to become the conference champions.
On Lakeville North’s first possession, Trey Heid connected with Charlie Hayes for a 65 yard touchdown reception. The two would hook up again in the second half.
Prior Lake proved that their ground game was something to take seriously. The tandem of Jack Kreiser and Jack Johnson proved at points, too much to handle for Lakeville North. However, the Panthers defense turned up the pressure inside their 20 and kept the Lakers out of the endzone.
Brandon Morgan added a second half touchdown to seal the victory for the Panthers.
Lakeville North heads into the playoffs with an unblemished record and the number one seed in section 1AAAAA and earn a first round bye.
Prior Lake will try to rebound as they head into the playoffs at 5-3 with a #2 seed in section 3AAAAA. They’ll open play against #7 Bloomington Jefferson Tuesday.
