A vehicle stolen in Belle Plaine late last month has turned up in a ditch north of town, and authorities think it may have crashed there up to two weeks ago.
On Oct. 13, Sibley County Sheriff’s deputies found Deborah Traxler’s car resting against trees in a ditch off of Sibley Count Road 6 north of Belle Plaine. Police estimate the severely-damaged vehicle had been in the ditch for up to 14 days.
Traxler’s car was reported stolen from her house on the morning of Sept. 29. Belle Plaine Police Chief Tom Stolee said they do not know the identity of the thief, but blood and fingerprints left behind could give police a strong candidate for who stole the vehicle.
