Week in Review – Shakopee Volleyball 2011 22 Oct 11

Week of: 10/17-10/23

Matches/Results: Def. Northfield 25-12, 25-13, 25-16

Brief Commentary per Match:
In the final conference match of the year, the Sabers made pretty quick work of the Raiders. It seemed that their balanced off was too much for the inexperienced Northfield team that graduated 9 players from last year’s team that finished second place in conference. We were not thrilled about giving Northfield 28 of their 41 points due to our errors. That certainly dragged out what should have otherwise been an extremely efficient night. 21 of those errors came on attack errors. Regardless, we still finished off the regular season with a 3-0 win sending us into post-season on the right note.

The following day, the section 2AAA seeding came out. Shakopee got the #1 seed followed by Hutch, Chan and Waconia to round out the top four. These teams will have first round byes and await the winners of the first round. Shakopee will play the winner of Chaska #8/Willmar #9 on Friday, October 28th.

Individual Player Highlights:
Senior middle blocker, Claire Sames, capped off a great regular season with another impressive night. 18 kills off of a .467 hitting % is just another typical night for the team’s leading hitter. Junior setter, Maggie Holcombe, had one of her most consistent nights of the year connecting with the hitters for 29 assists. She added 2 ace serves and was tied for a team high 9 digs.
