A 23-year-old Faribault man was sentenced Tuesday to more than four years in prison for his role in the Cannon River crash that killed Brittney Landsverk.

Mitchell Bongers pleaded guilty two months ago to criminal vehicular homicide in the fatal crash. He admitted to driving drunk on April 2, 2010 when he lost control of his vehicle and ended up in the Cannon River north of Faribault. Bongers and two other passengers escaped the vehicle, but the 20-year-old Landsverk slipped into the river and drowned. Her body was recovered from the river almost three months after the accident.

The Faribault Daily News reports Bongers was sentenced in Rice County District Court to 50 months in prison, and ordered to undergo chemical dependency treatment and counseling services while in prison.
