JORDAN – The Jordan Jaguars volleyball team advanced in Section 2AA North Sub-Section tournament Tuesday night with 25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 25-12 victory over Glencoe-Silver Lake. Jordan was led by their pair of All-State seniors Emilee Gutzmer and Kelsey Chambers with help from senior Paige Smith and junior Lexie Erickson on the attack.
“We got a little off on our attack in the second game, but found our footing to get the win and advance,” Jordan head volleyball coach Jason Geisel.
Things started off close in the first game with GSL being able to keep pace with Jordan early thanks to the attack 6’1″ junior middle hitter Clarissa Ober in getting three kills right away, but then she would come off the floor and Jordan would go on the attack. The jump serve of left-hander Kelsey Chambers would be too much for GSL and put Jordan on an 8-0 run to go up 11-4. That lead would not diminish as Jordan would cruise to a 25-12, punctuated by an ace serve by Kelsey Chambers to win the first set.
The second set would have a different start this time as GSL would get an early 5-1 lead. Jordan would eventually tie the score at 13-13, but a big 5-0 run for GSL highlighted by multiple attacking errors by Jordan would make it 18-13, GSL. Just like earlier in the set Jordan would battle back to make it 21-21, but two service errors and a kill from GSL’s Ober would doom the Jaguars to a 25-23 loss to GSL in the second set.
The third set would be tight early on just like the first set and once again just like the first set Kelsey Chambers would have a big 5-0 service run to put Jordan ahead 12-7. GSL would trim the lead down to 14-12, Jordan. The Jaguars would respond by going to kills with Paige Smith and Lexie Erickson to extend the lead to 17-12. Emilee Gutzmer would serve the final points, including an ace to win 25-15 in the third set.
Jordan would use another big service set from Gutzmer in the fourth to put them up 9-3 early. GSL would make up some ground with kills and blocks from Ober to make the score 14-10, Jordan. The Jaguars would end the fourth set on a 11-2 run to win 25-12 and secure themselves one more home game when they host the Section 2AA North Sub-Section semifinal on Tuesday.Jordan improves to 17-10 on the season and will host a game on Tuesday.
