The Wal-Mart discussion isn’t over in Chanhassen.
Although hundreds of residents spoke against the idea at a meeting earlier this month, the City Council will revisit the issue at its meeting Monday night. City officials tell the Chanhassen Villager there have been no major changes to the plan since the Planning Commission unanimously recommended against it at the Nov. 1 meeting.
Walmart is seeking conceptual approval for the 120,000-square-foot project, but the city’s existing zoning rules don’t account for a proposal of that size and there remain concerns with traffic, architecture, and parking.
If the Council votes against the project, the city would have to prepare findings of fact to support its decision. It would then be up to Walmart to determine if it will submit a different plan.
