Minnesota Vikings: Player Watch – Tuesday 06 Dec 11

TE Visanthe Shiancoe showed up Monday with a swollen hand. The Vikings aren’t sure how he hurt the hand. They sent him for X-rays, which turned out negative. He should be fine in time for Sunday’s game.

NT Remi Ayodele had the best game of what’s been a dismal, almost invisible first season with the Vikings. He had his first sack of the season, and also a season-high four tackles.

RB Adrian Peterson is “very close” to being healthy enough to return, coach Leslie Frazier said. Peterson, who has missed the past two games because of a high left ankle sprain, might be able to practice on a limited basis this week.

QB Christian Ponder suffered a hip pointer against Denver.

DE Brian Robison suffered a concussion. The Vikings will have to wait until he passes the league-mandated third-party concussion exam before they’ll know if he can play on Sunday. The Vikings have an exceptional backup in Everson Griffen at left defensive end. Griffen has earned the right to play more, either at end, tackle in passing situations or at linebacker, which he has been used at some this season.

LB Chad Greenway suffered a hyperextended elbow in Sunday’s game, but should be OK by Sunday. Greenway, who leads the team in tackles for the fourth consecutive season, tied for the team lead with six on Sunday.
