Shakopee, Scott County debate funding of bridge lighting 09 Dec 11

A city vs. county spat over electricity funding on a historic bridge in Shakopee has been temporarily set aside in order to turn the lights back on.

The Shakopee Public Utilities Commission directed city staff to light the newly-renovated Holmes Street Bridge while the commission, city, and Scott County try to find a long-term solution.

The bridge used to be connected to an SPUC circuit, but several weeks ago the Shakopee City Council asked the county to pay the bill since it recently took ownership of the bridge.

Commission President Bill Mars told the Shakopee Valley News the commission, county and city will strive for an efficient lighting and maintenance partnership.
