Jail time given to man convicted in police chase 30 Dec 11

A Ham Lake man convicted of leading police on a dangerous chase through Scott County has been sentenced to 20 months in prison.

Richard Donald Hegquist, 35, pleaded guilty Oct. 27 in Scott County District Court to fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a felony. He will serve just over 13 months in custody and just over six 6 months on supervised release.

According to the complaint, a Prior Lake police officer pulled Hegquist over on County Road 83 near Wilds Parkway on Sept. 25 for swerving and having his license plate light out. When the officer exited his squad car to approach Hegquist’s vehicle, Hegquist accelerated very quickly and left the scene.

The chase lasted through the Little Six Casino parking lot and onto Dakota Parkway before Hegquist fled on foot. He was eventually arrested near Prairie Grass Drive.
