The cold winter weather couldn’t stop New Prague from staying red hot as they hosted the Shakopee Sabers Tuesday night. Things started slowly in the first period as both teams had penalty trouble. Each team getting their turn in the sin bin. With neither team being able to capitalize on power plays scoring would be limited in the first period to 1-0 in favor of New Prague.
New Prague would take the lead in the first period and hold on to it the rest of the game. During the second period the shut out would continue and New Prague would tallying another two goals. Toward the end of the second period Shakopee would begin to come alive. Keeping pace with the Trojans and getting almost ten shots on goal during the final minutes of second period play.
The third period gave Shakopee power play opportunities that were thwarted by New Prague and its tenacious penalty kill. The third period would stay competitive as New Prague would not only keep its lead but advance it by 1. At the end the night Shakopee would remain scoreless allowing a third shutout for Joe Morris the senior goal tender. The Trojans had 9 assists on 4 goals, two goals by Michael Fadden, the senior defense-men. Even though they didn’t walk away with the victory, Shakopee is still able to draw positives, picking up the pace and getting more shots on goal. Friday the Trojans host Redwing and Saturday the Sabers return to home ice to face East Ridge High.
