It was a back and forth game Friday night at Lakeville South High School as the Cougars hosted the Prior Lake Lakers. The 5-6 Cougars came into the game on a four game losing streak, three of those losses coming from matchups against ranked opponents. Prior Lake on the other hand came in with a season that thus far has greatly improved on the last, standing at 6-5. Lakeville South had no conference wins while Prior Lake won two out of their three.
Once the first half was under way it was apparent Prior Lake came to play as they got off to a 13 point lead, with help from Harrison and top scorer Sobaski. But by the end of the first half Lakeville South had found a balance and cut the lead to one.
The Second half would see both teams stay within just a few points of each other up until the final buzzer. Thanks to improved ball handling, double coverage of Prior Lakes best players like 7 foot tall Shanks, and extra effort from the likes of Powell and Bzoskie the Cougars were able to hold on to the lead and get their first conference victory.
Both teams leave the contest with a record of 6-6. Next Tuesday the Lakers will take on Bloomington Kennedy, while the Cougars take on Bloomington Jefferson.
