Governor Mark Dayton’s bonding proposal includes a security measure for a local women’s prison.
The $1.5 billion bonding proposal released yesterday includes $5.4 million for a security fence at the women’s prison in Shakopee. Since its construction in 1980, the prison has seen its population increase nearly six fold, while security risks continue to expand. The prison has received legislative attention in the past for only being protected by a hedge.
The state senate bonding committee toured the prison yesterday morning.
