Man shot by police officer in St. Paul 18 Jan 12

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Police in St. Paul say an officer shot and wounded an armed man after stopping a vehicle which authorities believed was involved in drug activity.

Authorities say four men are in custody and two guns have been recovered following the traffic stop Tuesday evening near Interstate 94. As officers tried to make the stop, two men

abandoned the moving vehicle. Police say one of the men raised a gun in the direction of a St. Paul officer, who shot the man twice. The other man fled, but was arrested after a short foot chase.

The 23-year-old suspect who was shot was taken to Regions Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials say another vehicle that fled during the stop was later found abandoned. Two men believed to be in that vehicle were arrested at a local restaurant.
