During a press conference Wednesday in St. Paul, Governor Mark Dayton narrowed down his recommendation for a Vikings stadium site but declined to keep Shakopee’s proposal in the mix.

Dayton said the Shakopee site merited serious consideration, but the proposal didn’t contain any local financial contribution and instead relied too much on racinos.

Racino legislation was introduced this week by several area legislators to be considered when the 2012 session begins next week. Opponents believe, even if such legislation did pass, proceeds from racinos would not provide the assured revenue stream to back state-issued bonds until inevitable litigation was resolved.

Dayton cited issues with all of the stadium site proposals, but called the Metrodome site the default option, and said Linden Ave. may be the most promising.
