School resumed Tuesday at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis while students and faculty continued to mourn the loss of a special education teacher.
Authorities say Holly Brett, 56, of Lakeville, died in a car accident in her hometown on Friday after she drove her SUV off the road, struck a tree and rolled over.
The accident occurred after Brett left school for the day and was driving home, according to Roosevelt Principal Michael Bradley.
“She was very caring and really connected well with her students. There are a lot of students who are going to miss her,” Bradley told the Star Tribune.
Brett began her career in special education in 1993 at Barton Elementary school in Minneapolis and moved to Roosevelt in 2008, according to school and state records.
Brett’s family has asked that memorials be directed to the special education department at Roosevelt High School.
