Armed robbery of bar leads to prison time for Norwood woman 26 Jan 12

A woman from Norwood Young America has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for robbing a Chaska bar last spring.

Roberta Ann Michel, 45, was sentenced in Carver County District Court on Tuesday to 58 months in prison, which is consistent with Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines. Michel’s attorney had argued for a reduced sentence.

According to the criminal complaint, in the early morning hours of May 11, 2011, Michel entered Kelley’s Bar in Chaska, brandished a firearm, and demanded money from the cash register. Michel was given $400 before fleeing on foot.

Assistant County Attorney Peter Ivy said his goal is to aggressively prosecute gun crimes to deter others from committing similar acts and to punish those who threaten the community’s sense of safety.
