DULUTH, Minn. (AP) – A 19-year-old man faces felony charges after a crash that killed a Duluth woman and critically injured the grandson she was driving to school.
Hawk Patrick Edwards of Williston, N.D., was charged Monday with criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation
The complaint alleges that Edwards’ pickup crossed the center line and collided head-on with a car driven by 65-year-old Paula Bergren last Thursday.
Paula Bergren was killed. Her 13-year-old grandson, Edward Everett Bergren, was critically injured.
The Duluth News Tribune reports the suspect’s first statement to police was: “I just killed those people.”
A preliminary breath test found Edwards had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent. Minnesota’s legal limit is 0.08 percent.
Edwards remained in jail Tuesday, with bail set at $150,000.
