Thursday night at Hasse Arena in Lakeville the 11-7 Lakeville South Cougars hosted the 4-13 Jefferson Jaguars.
Lakeville South took it to the Jaguars early completely dominating the shots on goal column. Jefferson goalie Grant Martens unable slow down all the pucks flying at him in the fast and furious first period.
For the Cougars Grant Gangeness, Justin Doeden and Justin Kloos all with first period goals. Then at the 15:22 mark of the period John Wiitala capitalized on a penalty shot to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead going into the second period.
The teams not only traded sides after the intermission, they seemed to also trade personalities. For as dominating as the Cougars were in the first period, the Jaguars looked just as impressive in the second. Winning the shots column and peppering Cougars goalie Tyler Schumacher with pucks. A couple of power play oppertunities and a few open shots on goal helped the Jaguars climb out the whole the dug themselves into in the first.
For the Jaguars Jack Weiss and Nathan Wiklund both with goals in the second period and Johnny Panvica scoring his second goal of the period tied the game at 4 a piece.
Then at the 10:04 mark of the second period Lakeville forward Michael Chuinard takes advantage of a scoring oppertunety by putting the puck in the back of the net, eventually turning out to be the game winner as niether team giving an inch in a scoreless third period. Not for a lack of trying as both teams with an even number of shots, but unfortunatley for the Jefferson Jaguars, Cougars goalie Tyler Schumacher was determined not to give up that game tying goal for a second time.
Both Teams playing well a times and neither team really deserving of the loss but such is the beauty of sport, and the Lakeville South Cougars skate away with the 5-4 win Thursday night in a fast-paced, action filled game at Hasse Area in Lakeville.
