A Chaska family is recovering today after a car accident that could have been much worse.
21-year-old James Washington and his family were traveling south on the Highway 101 bridge near Shakopee, when the SUV Washington was driving lost a wheel, veered off the road, then stuck a tree.
According to the State Patrol one of three children in the vehicle was ejected onto the ice of the Minnesota River. Only Washington and one of the children were wearing seatbelts.
Shakopee Valley News reports that Washington and his three-year-old son were airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis; his 26-year-old wife, Ashley Scott, and the other two children were taken by ambulance to St Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee. None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.
The State Patrol is investigating the accident.
