A man from Rosemount was tased by police after he allegedly stole cell phones and tablets from stores in Apple Valley and Lakeville and then fled from authorities.
Dennis Braselman, 20, is facing felony theft and felony property damage charges as well as two misdemeanor charges for giving a false name to police and fleeing police.
According to the criminal complaint, Lakeville police responded to a call from a Lakeville cell phone store that a man had just ripped a $900 iPhone from the display case and run out of the store. The man, later identified as Braselman, also caused over $2,000 worth of damage to the display.
Police later saw a man who matched the employee’s description of Braselman walking in the area. When police ordered the man to stop, he ran through several yards until he encountered a fence he couldn’t climb. The police said the suspect gave the name Dennis Smith and that they had to subdue him using a taser because he wouldn’t cooperate.
The police also allegedly received a statement from Braselman admitting to the theft of the iPhone as well as the theft of a Verizon Zoom Pad from an Apple Valley store the day before.
The hearing for Braselman is scheduled for Feb. 28 in Dakota County District Court. The maximum penalty for the combined charges is 10 years in prison and/or a $22,000 fine.
