Ex-girlfriend turns in alleged bank robber 15 Feb 12

Local authorities say they have extra reason to believe they found the man who robbed a bank in Prior Lake last fall: his ex-girlfriend turned him in.

The Scott County Attorney’s Office charged 42-year-old Robert Anthony Jerde last month with one count of bank robbery for robbing a U.S. Bank branch in Prior Lake on Nov. 5. Jerdes is in custody in Polka County, Iowa for another crime, and has allegedly admitted to detectives that he robbed the Prior Lake bank.

Earlier last month an ex-girlfriend of Jerdes reported him to Prior Lake police, saying she was “tired of dealing with him” and that he was in the Polk County Jail in Des Moines for another bank robbery. According to the woman Jerdes showed her surveillance photos of the robbery on the internet, and she recognized her jacket as the one he was wearing in the photo.

The case will be prosecuted in Scott County, not federally, because there was no firearm involved.
