After over 30 years serving the Belle Plaine School District, high school principal Lowell Hoffman will be turning in his keys at the end of June.

Hoffman submitted his resignation at the board meeting Monday night, thanking Superintendent Kelly Smith and the board for their support over the years.

The 58-year-old Hoffman said he and his wife, Jennifer, a special education teacher at Oak Crest Elementary School, are retiring together. They plan to spend time volunteering, and traveling to see their children and grandchildren.

This will be the first time in over three decades that the Belle Plaine district will have to search for both a junior and senior high school principal.
