Driver in fatal I-94 crash was Prior Lake grad 21 Feb 12

A recent Prior Lake High School graduate was among those killed Monday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 west of Alexandria.

According to the State Patrol accident report, Lauren J. Peterson, 18, was driving westbound on I-94 in heavy snow and fog when she lost control, crossed the center median into eastbound traffic and was broadsided by an SUV. A third car then rear-ended the SUV.

Three other passengers in the vehicle, all teenage women, were also killed in the crash.

Several sources report the four women were roommates at North Dakota State University and were on their way back to school from the Twin Cities.

Two drivers and a passenger in the eastbound vehicles suffered non-life threatening injuries. The State Patrol report states that all four women were wearing their seatbelts, and alcohol is not believe to be a factor in the crash.
