The Minnesota Supreme Court’s redistricting plan for House, Senate and Congressional districts will have a big impact on area cities and counties.
Most of Shakopee will now be in House District 55A along with Louisville and Jackson townships that were formerly combined with Carver County. Prior Lake is now paired with Jordan in House District 55B, which also contains a southern portion of Shakopee and the rest of the Scott County townships.
Elko New Market previously shared a Senate district with northern Scott County but is now in District 20 along with northwestern Rice County (20B), most of Le Sueur County (split between 20A and 20B), and a southern strip of Scott County that includes all of the cities Belle Plaine and New Prague (20A).
Most of Carver County will be its own Senate district; Carver, Cologne, Waconia and the rural areas of Carver County will fall in House District 27B, and all of Chaska and part of Victoria is now 27A. The northeast corner of Carver County, including a large portion of Chanhassen, is now in House District 33B.
On the Congressional map, Faribault officials no longer have to be concerned about being split in half, as the entire city and the western two-thirds of the county, along with all of Le Sueur County, are now in District 1. All of Scott and Dakota counties remain in District 2; Carver is now split between District 6 on the western half and District 3 in the northeastern corner.
