Did you know that all blood products used at our hospital come from Memorial Blood Centers? Memorial Blood Centers is a nonprofit community blood center that provides blood and blood components – not only to our local hospital – but to 31 hospitals throughout the metro area, northern Minnesota, and northwestern Wisconsin.
On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 1 – 6:30 p.m., Queen’s Court will be the site of a Memorial Blood Centers community blood drive. The draw is being sponsored by the Hospital Auxiliary. (NOTE change of location.) Queen’s Court is located at 311 Columbus Avenue North, New Prague, directly across from the hospital. Please use the front entrance.
Donors can give blood every 56 days. Eligible donors can also do an Alyx (double red blood cell donation). The Alyx Component Collection System allows you to give two units of red blood cells during a single donation. To qualify as a donor with the Alyx System, men must be at least 5’ 1” and weigh at least 130 pounds, and women must be at least 5’ 5” and weigh at least 150 pounds. Both must have a hematocrit of at least 40%. You can make an Alyx donation every 16 weeks.
For more information on the Memorial Blood Centers community drive on March 7 2012, or to make an appointment, call the Hospital at 952-758-8190 or 1-800-584-6667, ext. 5268. A light lunch will be served; however, donors are encouraged to eat some protein before they come to give blood.
“By donating blood you help ensure a safe and adequate local blood supply,” Rachel Pavolla, Memorial Blood Centers site coordinator, noted. “You can make a difference in your community and you may even save the life of a family member, friend, or neighbor.”
