Grass fire burns 1,000 acres near Cleveland 13 Mar 12

Seven area fire departments were called to battle a quickly-spreading grass fire that burned over 1,000 acres near Cleveland this weekend.

Cleveland Fire Chief Kevin Hewitt told the Le Center Daily News the fire got close to some structures but none were damaged, and no one was hurt.

Hewitt said tree stumps were burned several miles east of Cleveland a few weeks ago, and they may have been rekindled by Saturday’s winds.

State officials are also warning of a continued elevated fire danger throughout southern and central Minnesota because of high temperatures and a lack of snow.
