An investigator hired by Scott County to look into allegations filed against Administrator Gary Shelton announced her lack of findings at a Wednesday morning board meeting and lambasted county commissioners for infighting and backstabbing.
Contract Investigator Michelle Soldo said that after extensive investigation and interviews with commissioners, the allegations against Shelton concerning conflict of interest and inappropriate behavior were found to be groundless. Soldo told the board some allegations “were based on speculation, conjecture, gut feeling.”
Commissioner Barbara Marschall said she believes that whoever filed the complaints anonymously most likely had a personal vendetta against Shelton. Some commissioners and members of the public have speculated that one or more board members orchestrated the allegations.
County staff estimates the legal bill for the 100-hour investigation will be in excess of $10,000.
