Shakopee detective assaulted while investigating assault 23 Mar 12

A Shakopee police detective investigating a beating at a Shakopee townhome complex was injured when he tried to intervene in a different assault.

Officer Cody Horner was searching the grounds of Clifton Townhomes, looking for a possible weapon used in the Sunday morning assault that left one man hospitalized with traumatic brain injuries, when Horner overheard a heated argument.

When he attempted to calm down Bashir Abdullahi Mohamoud, 26, of Bloomington, Horner was allegedly picked up and slammed against the arm of a couch. Mohamoud held Horner down, and fought off two other officers until they were able to handcuff him. He has been charged in Scott County District Court with two fourth-degree felony assaults of police officers and misdemeanor domestic assault.
