Felony charges for man accused of hitting, choking woman 03 Apr 12

A Burnsville man accused of punching and strangling a woman while in a drunken rage is facing multiple felonies.

Patrick Joseph Spears, 26, is charged with third-degree assault, substantial bodily harm and domestic assault by strangulation.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the female victim’s apartment and found her in the hall, with a gash under her eye and a broken nose.

She told police that the confrontation started when Spears returned home from a night of drinking. She said when she asked Spears how much he had to drink, he became angry and began hitting her in the face. He then allegedly pushed her to the ground and started choking her.

Spears remains in the Dakota County Jail on $50,000 bond. His first court appearance is set for April 24.
