Free tax help for area seniors, low-income families 09 Apr 12

With the IRS tax filing deadline about a week away, senior citizens and low income families can get free help filing their returns.

The AARP foundation will offer the free assistance to senior citizens and families that are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The walk-in assistance is available on a first-come-first-serve basis and will assist with basic state and federal returns. Counselors will not be able to help complete complex forms like depreciation, business, farm and the like.

Area tax aide locations include the New Prague Public Library, Prior Lake Senior Center, Shakopee Community Center, and the Ziebarth Learning Center in Le Sueur. More information, including the documents you need to bring, can be found on the AARP website at AARP.org/taxaide.
