Trojans get past the Cardinals 21 Apr 12

Friday afternoon at New Prague High School the Trojans hosted an inter conference game against the visiting Willmar Cardinals. Willmar winning four out of their first five games looking to continue their success against a Trojan team coming off a tough loss to Chanhassen looking to rebound and pick up their fourth win of the season.

The Trojans bringing their big bats with them Friday and were able to get to starting pitcher Heather Horning right away as the first three batters and the first 5 out of 6 all get singles with a couple RBI’s mixed in there and they leave the bases loaded for our Pizza Ranch Player of the Game Megan Bissell who hammers one to the gap in left center and comes up huge with a bases clearing, three run triple to put her team up by a score of 5-0 through the first.

Starting pitcher for the Trojans Amber Hoffman able to put the Cardinal batters down in order through the first 3 innings and was breezing through the Willmar line-up with ease for most of the game, not allowing the first hit until the fourth inning. “We rely on Amber a lot…she does a great job for us” Said short stop Megan Bissell. Hoffman was also able to help her own cause in the fifth by driving in a run on a sacrifice fly to push the lead up to six.

Finally the bats came alive for the Cardinals as New Prague knew that a victory against Willmar wasn’t going to come that easy, Amber Hoffman gave up five runs in the sixth on two 2-RBI doubles and another run scored on a wild pitch cutting the lead to 1 with a score of 6-5.

Coach Perkinson sent Hoffman back out for the top of the seventh even though she had just given up five in the last inning, and he proved to be right. Hoffman recomposed herself putting her troubles in the last inning behind her and was able to sit the Cardinals down in order yet again.

“To get the big hit today was exciting….finally something going our way,” Said coach Perkinson after watching his Trojans hold on to get their fourth win of the season by a final score of 6-5 over the Willmar Cardinals.
