Jennings leads Rays to 6-2 win over Twins, Blackburn set to rejoin rotation 23 Apr 12

Saint Petersburg, Fla. (AP) – Desmond Jennings homered and drove in three runs as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Minnesota Twins 6-2 on Sunday.

Jennings had a sacrifice fly during a two-run third and made it 5-0 in the fifth with a two-run homer off Francisco Liriano (0-3).

Liriano went five innings, allowing five runs, three hits and walks over 16 1/3 innings this season.

Josh Willingham went 0 for 2, which ended his season-opening 15-game hitting streak that had tied Kirby Puckett’s Twins’ record set in 1994. Willingham walked once and was hit by a pitch.

Saint Petersburg, Fla. (AP) – Minnesota right-hander Nick Blackburn is set to rejoin the Twins’ starting rotation Tuesday night.

Blackburn felt a cramp in the back of his right shoulder April 14 against Texas. He threw a 52-pitch bullpen session Sunday.

Blackburn said he didn’t feel any discomfort while throwing and doesn’t foresee any lingering issues.

Boston right-hander Josh Beckett is the scheduled starter for the Red Sox on Tuesday, which is the second game of a three-game series.
