Man will serve at least four years for eighth DWI 24 Apr 12

A serial drunk driver arrested in Prior Lake last month for his eighth DWI in 15 years has been sentenced to more than six years in prison.

Carlos Rocha, 42, of St. Paul, pleaded guilty in Scott County District Court last week to first-degree DWI. Rocha was accused of driving intoxicated in the early morning hours of March 14. Mystic Lake Casino security provided Prior Lake police with a license plate number as Rocha left the casino, and an officer pulled over Rocha’s vehicle nearby.

After allegedly performing poorly on field-sobriety tests, Rocha registered a 0.224 blood alcohol content on a preliminary breath test and was arrested for DWI.

This is Rocha’s eighth DWI conviction in Minnesota dating back to 1997. He was sentenced to 75 months prison and must serve at least 50 months at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
