APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (AP) – Police in a Twin Cities suburb say a domestic assault suspect was fatally shot after he fired at an officer.
A woman called Apple Valley police Sunday shortly before 6 p.m. to report that she had been assaulted and choked by her live-in boyfriend. Police coaxed the man out of the residence and when he was told that he was under arrest, he ran back into the home and up a flight of stairs. The officer who followed the suspect saw that he had armed himself with a handgun.
Police say the man shot at the officer and the officer returned fire, striking the suspect. The man was taken to Regions Medical Center in St. Paul and pronounced dead. The two officers involved in the incident are on routine administrative leave.
