Three Rivers Park District sent email notifications to its online members last week reporting a security breach of its reservation systems database.
Park District Superintendent Chris Gears sent the email Friday saying that unknown persons had attempted to access the personal data of Three Rivers’ customers.
The email said user names and passwords were gathered from the database, but credit card numbers and other identifying information have not been accessed or downloaded. Gears said that data is stored on an external system by a national credit card provider whose system is secure.
Three Rivers technical staff has reviewed and bolstered its firewalls, and Gears said outside consultants have advised him that the system is safe.
All users of the park district’s online reservation system will be prompted to change their passwords the next time they log on to the system.
