TCU and Sibley East split doubleheader 11 May 12

Thursday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Montgomery the TCU Titans hosted the Sibley East Wolverines for a double header. With both teams hovering or just below .500 approaching the end of the season, both teams need to come away at least one victory in this match up. Two great games both going to extra innings, both with exciting finishes.

In this first game the first couple of innings were relatively easy going both pitchers doing well with good defense behind them until the top of the third inning when Sibley East was able to put together a string of five hits in a row including a double by Ed Reichenbach and a couple of back to back RBI singles from Brandon Ashton and Lucas Shwope giving the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. TCU responded in their half of the inning by pushing across a run on a RBI double by Dalton Zueg.

After the third Sibley East was only able to get one runner in scoring position for the rest of the game. TCU on the other hand was able get some base runners and advance some runners and chip away at the lead with a run coming across in the sixth on a RBI single from Rob D’Amato and the tying run in the seventh off a RBI double from Nate Rosier pushing the game to extra innings.

Neither team able to do anything in the eighth, then leading off the ninth inning was starting pitcher Lucas Shwope who gets a pitch he liked and gave it a ride out to left field over the fence for the first home run of the game and giving Sibley East the lead. TCU unable to respond in their half of the inning giving Sibley East the 4-3 victory in the first game.

In the second game TCU came out hitting right away and was able to put two quick runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Sibley East not to be out done responded in their next at bats tying the game by pushing across two runs in the top of the second and followed that up with three more runs in the third and two more in the fourth with the biggest contributor being Cody Doetkott with two RBI doubles and stretching the Wolverines lead out to 7-2. TCU once again began to chip away at the lead with a RBI sac fly by Justin Bastyr and a RBI single by Nate Rosier.

Sibley East saw their bats go cold as they were an able to respond and could only watch as they saw TCU come back to tie the game once again in the seventh with a couple of RBI single from Ryan Iverson and Brad Flicek to push the game to extras yet again. The Wolverines go down in order in the top of the eighth and it was TCU’s turn to try to steal a game here and force a two game split. Rob D’Amato leads off and reaches first on an error the Andy Feddema stretches a hit into a double putting runners on second and third, the Wolverines intentionally walk Justin Bastyr to load the bases. Dalton Zueg hits a ground ball and Sibley East forces out D’Amato on the fielders choice not allowing the run but keeping the bases loaded for Nate Rosier who then sees a pitch left over the plate and is able to pop it right over the shortstops head and brings home Andy Feddema for the game winning walk-off run.

Exciting and compelling baseball action in both games of this double header split with Sibley East winning the first game by a final 4-3 and TCU winning the second by a final of 8-7
