A patient at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center walked away from the facility last week and was missing for almost 24 hours before a turkey hunter and a K-9 unit helped capture him.
William Daniel Pfeffer was reported missing around 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 8. Regional Treatment Center staff reported that Pfeffer had been in a low security area of the center and was nearing the end of his program, and that he did not have a history of violence with the public.
At 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, a turkey hunter spotted a man matching Pfeffer’s description south of St. Peter along Highway 169. With help from a Minnesota State Patrol Helicopter, the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office and several K-9 units tracked Pfeffer near Seven Mile Creek County Park. He was taken into custody just before 12 p.m. and turned over to staff from the Minnesota Security Hospital.
