The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down south of Belle Plaine during Sunday night’s severe weather.
The tornado was on the ground for about two miles, starting six miles south-southwest of Belle Plaine around 8:15 p.m. in Le Sueur County and moving northeast into Scott County.
It was rated as a weak EF-0, with winds 65 to 70 mph and a medium width of 50 yards.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, some roofs on sheds or barns were damaged, and a silo was toppled on one farm. There was also moderate damage reported from a few fallen trees and big limbs.
